BAKERY LAMP – A highly popular bakery worth a visit | Check out fresh bread, natural yeast bagels & burgers

There are many bakeries in Himeji City. Among them, “BAKERY LAMP” is so popular that it has even been featured on TV. Even though it is located in a back alley where even locals can get lost, long lines form on holidays. Foreign tourists who have heard the rumors are also seen here. Here we introduce a wide variety of breads, natural yeast bagels, New York-style hamburgers, and other popular menu items!

・Directions to BAKERY LAMP

Get off at JR Himeji Station and walk about 12 minutes.

Located just 4 minutes south of Himeji Castle, it’s a convenient stop during your visit.

・A bakery tucked away in a back alley

BAKERY LAMP is a bakery located in a back alley not far from Himeji Station and Himeji Castle.

It is so well hidden that even locals familiar with the area and regular visitors struggle to find it. Turn at the corner with a utility pole that has a sign attached, and you will find the store.

At the end of the alley, there is a door leading to the store. On weekends, holidays, and during busy periods such as summer vacation (late July to late August) and winter vacation (late December to early January), a line forms outside the door, and the line can extend into the alley.

In addition to customers from outside the prefecture who have heard about the deliciousness of the bakery’s bread, which has been featured on TV and other media, the bakery also attracts many foreign tourists visiting Himeji Castle.

Lunch time, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. , is the time when the most bread is on display.

In the afternoon, hard breads and Danish breads are baked one after another, and about 120 kinds of breads are available each day.

The bakery also has an eat-in area.

Burgers can be ordered from the morning, so if you want to have a late morning or an early lunch, we recommend tasting them in the restaurant.

・Signature Natural Yeast Bagels

Bagels filling the shelves in the center of the store are the store’s signature product. There are about 20 varieties of flavorful bagels made with natural yeast.

Each natural yeast bagel starts at 280 yen. In addition to the simple “plain” bagel (280 yen), there are a variety of other options such as “cheese” (300 yen), “chocolate” (380 yen), and “cinnamon raisin bagel” (360 yen).

There are also seasonal bagels made with matcha green tea (a uniquely Japanese green tea) and seasonal fruits, so you can enjoy just looking at them.

・About 120 kinds of bread

『Deep-fried curry bread』350 yen

One of the many signature items, “Deep-Fried Curry Bread” is a chewy dish with large homemade croutons in the batter.

It is rare in Japan to find it this crispy, so if you see it, you must try it. It remains crispy even after cooling, making it a favorite among customers of all ages for its long-lasting crunch.

The store’s danishes are also worth paying attention to. The pie crust, which is carefully folded in one by one by the bakers, is characterized by its crispy and chewy texture.

The classic “croissant” (380 yen) is as large as the palm of your hand. It has a perfect balance of sweet buttery aroma and just the right amount of saltiness, making it a dish that goes well with a meal.

The fruit Danish made from its pie crust has a gentle sweetness that makes it a perfect teatime accompaniment.

『Chocolate Chunk Scone』380 yen

The scones, which have quickly become a hot topic at events, are also big in size! The rugged appearance and size of these handmade scones may remind you of scones from your hometown.

The most popular item is the “Choco Chunk Scone,” with plenty of chocolate chips hidden inside the dough.

There are also two or three other varieties lined up at random every day, ranging from meal items to sweet items, such as those with cheese and tea, so be sure to enjoy them!

・Gourmet burgers that wow even foreign tourists!

『Umami Burger』1,190 yen

Don’t miss the restaurant’s burgers, which are all handmade, from the buns to the patties and sauce. The crust is well browned and savory, but the inside is surprisingly moist and soft. Between these ultimate buns are sandwiched patties, vegetables, and original sauce.

The bakery refers to the generous spread of butter on the bun as “umami.” Even a simple burger with a patty, lettuce, and tomatoes becomes much richer with this extra “umami” touch. You will surely be enchanted by the butter that oozes out of each bite.

『Umami Burger』1,190 yen,
『Combo (French fries and drink)』500 yen

The burger can be changed to a set of French fries or salad and a drink for an additional 500 yen. There are also 6 different toppings for the burger, so try your hand at creating your own original burger set by combining them to your liking!

『Veggie burger (Homemade Falafel)』1,150 yen

The restaurant also offers veggie burgers for vegetarians. There are two types on the menu: “Avocado,” made from a whole fresh avocado, and “Homemade Falafel,” a vegan croquette made from mashed chickpeas.

Even though there is no meat in them, they are full of both texture and flavor, and are popular even among non-vegetarians.

Located on the road from Himeji Station to Himeji Castle, BAKERY LAMP is loved by locals and tourists alike. The burger menu is also available in English, so even if you do not speak Japanese, you can enjoy shopping without worries.
